High note for Ixworth Free School as student wins piano

Student Ed Harley has won a unique piano for Ixworth Free School after entering an online competition. The upright piano, donated by Millers Music in Cambridge, was one of 21 to be played simultaneously as part of Cambridge University’s Kings College Chapel ’21 pianos’ concert, before being gifted through the online competition to local schools and community groups.

Ed Harley, who is Head Boy at Ixworth Free School, said: “We love music at Ixworth Free School but we don’t have a full size piano so, when I saw the competition, I decided to enter on behalf of the school. I was surprised and excited to hear I had won and I’m very pleased to see the piano in its new home.”

Niki King, Headteacher at Ixworth Free School, said: “We are all thrilled to have a fantastic piano at the school, which students will enjoy for years to come. Well done to Ed for thinking of his fellow students by entering the competition on his own initiative, and thank you to Millers Music for donating the instrument.”
